Be a Style Guru - Part 1
‘Clothes maketh the man.’ Not very true perhaps, but clothes and grooming go a long way in presenting a favorable first impression. Here is something for the basic know-how for men.
Grooming Tips for Men
The Close Shave
Always shower first, or at least wash in hot water. Pre-shave oil is recommended. Shave down on the face but up on the neck. Moisturize and then bring on the colognes.
Pay Attention to Hands and Feet
Don’t forget to include your hands and feet in your grooming routine. Make time to clip and file your nails at home. Keeping the nails long for any given reason is not advisable. Foot odour is a common problem among many men, and is relatively easy to treat. Scrub your feet daily and dry them completely. Insert a pair of odour control insoles into your shoes, which will absorb wetness and odour.
Extend your Razor Blade’s Life
All you need is a bottle of mineral oil and some rubbing alcohol. After shaving, thoroughly clean and dry your razor blades and then completely immerse the razor head in a shallow dish filled with mineral oil. Use the rubbing alcohol to wash away the oil next time you need to use the razor. By immersing the blades in oil, you stop the oxidization process that dulls their sharp edges.
Accessories for Men
The mantra here is to keep it minimal. The must haves for man of today are a wristwatch, tie-pin, leather briefcase and a cell phone. A ring can be added to accessorize further but don’t forget to keep it simple.
Now let’s move on to a few details that most men overlook while setting up a wardrobe. Luckily for men, you don’t have as much to choose as women, and let’s face it, most men hate shopping!
Office wear will depend on the company you work at. In recent times, dress code at work is relaxing, so if your company is comfortable with employees dressing semi-formally, go ahead! But on formal occasions a suit is must. Where a splash of color is not only allowed but also welcomed is in your choice of shirts or ties.
For a weekend out of town sport a pair of chinos with a collared t-shirt.
